Reportedly, they originally moved into the mansion so Jolie could be on location while filming “Salt.” This 48-acre property is a waterfront estate in Lloyd Neck Harbor on Long Island in New York. The family will be renting it from the unnamed owner, who is asking for $60 million for the property and recently turned down an offer of $50 million. At one time, the Sassafras estate was listed on the “Forbes” list as one of the 10-most expensive homes in North America. Reportedly, the Jolie-Pitts are paying $100,000 per month to rent it for the duration of their stay.

About the property
The mansion is in the Tudor-style, which traditionally incorporates medieval style architecture from the 16th and 17th centuries. Sassafras incorporates the beautiful oriel windows and the traditional Tudor shape. It’s 22,000 square feet and has eight bedrooms.
Also on the estate are two helipads. This is perfect for the Jolie-Pitts since they do tons of traveling for their thriving careers. Since Jolie’s a licensed pilot, it’s possible the helipad will get some use. The kids love helicopters, so maybe they can convince Mom to take them for a spin.
A six-bedroom ranch-style guesthouse rests on the property. It also has an 11-bedroom staff house, which is also a Tudor-style dressing.
But that’s not all. The waterfront property includes a private cove with a dock and large enough for a yacht, a sailboat and a speedboat. Twelve of the properties acres are underwater for a few joy rides. When they want to swim, they have a pool. The property also includes some tennis courts.
And if any of the kids like horses, they’re in for a treat. A nearby 1500-state park has horseback riding and walking trails.
What It All Means
The Jolie-Pitts are incredibly fortunate and able to have the experience of a lifetime. The Sassafras Estate is incredibly unique for an area so close to Manhattan. Built in 1987, it’s very secluded and private. The castle-like main building is copious and room, with high, decorated ceilings. It’s designed for luxury and comfort.
The outside may look amazing, but it’s nothing compared to what awaits inside. In addition to the bedrooms, it includes eight full baths and four half-bathrooms. From many of the rooms, the large windows provide views of the cove.
There’s a large formal dining room and an enclosed dining terrace that is heated so it can be enjoyed even during New York’s cold winters.
The mansion also houses a gym with a barbershop, a hot tub, a steam shower and cold plunge.
